Geeking Out - January 2021

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

A day late and a dollar short, Dearly Debated is back with our hot takes from January 2021. Greg shoots mushroom people, Ashley flaunts her VHS player, Greg reads too many comics, and Nathanael is reading adorable manga.

I think your uncle would be proud of you leaving your home to come help us. That's hard. Wasn't that hard? Really? You didn't leave behind anyone you cared about. Well, I did have a girlfriend, may that gloomy girl who sighs a lot. Yeah, everyone in the fire nation thinks I'm a traitor. I couldn't drag her into it. My first girlfriend turned into the move. That's rough, buddy. This is fun. Welcome to be early debated the show where you're in title two. Opinion, even if it's wrong. I'm your boy, primary host. I say that because I'm one who had these things. I'm not. I don't get caughty. Get let me. That should be on the south for it. Daniel Serious Levinson with me in the studio, in the Valerie Levinson studio. I am Greg Miller. Friends, all right, and joining US virtually are. I am Ashley, I Love Feeling Feelings, Thomas and I'm Jason. I were way too many comics angle. So today we're doing a special, hopefully recurring episode where we're just going to talk about what we've been geeking out over in the previous month. Yeah, so just going to kind of go around the table and talk about what we've been watching, whether old or old, new or new new, how it's been hitting us. Yeah, so why don't we start? And it'll be a little I'll just stay up about it. A little weird for me, as January for me was kind of a media so a media break in general. So I really didn't consume a whole lot of media, or much, much less media than I usually do. But I do have a couple things to talk about. So why don't we start with Dq, our special guest, and Quiver Q. What have you been watching in January? What did you what did you watch or play or read or January? NYTHING grows. Yeah, so they don't know, like the it's a comment and hands. For those who don't know, DQ is my roommate. So most things that I did into I wrote, pay and do it. Yeah, it was a group activity. Yeah, for sure, both of us, and Future Ama's been him on his own time. But Oh about you? Great, what have you been getting in? Gosh? Well, January was an interesting month because I had covid so for ten days I got real deep, like like I normally watch TV shows and movies, and you know how the heck at a time, but I got you know, that's all I had to do for anyways. So I would say the thing that stuck out the Moros would actually a video game, and you guys have all been hearing about it. I haven't talked about a ton of show, which is the last of us. I finished the second game. I played the first one and was blowing. It's making that into a movie. Yep, well, who is netforce is make sorry, H I'm sorry, it's not at Netflix. It's HBO Max. You're making that into a movie. They just ask pickupascal as Joel really rip interest. Not Spoiler alert, but okay, well, spoiler for the future movie that we'll be coming out. I should beat. I Apologize, but I played the first game, let's see you, about a year and a half ago, maybe two years ago, and it was really good. It like it kind of like blew me away as far as like what a game could be like. The storyline was, you know, much more compelling and just characters are developed better than most movies I had watched and TV shows. On top of that, the Gameplay is extremely intriguing to go along with it. So I'm like you can kind of break moot the games into two categories, where it's like this is clearly a story game, where I'm playing it just to kind of get through the mode to see what happens at the end. Like I can sider the God of war games similar to that, where you kind of just button mashing and then you're like this is a really interesting story with stories great, the Games not very intriguing, and then your games where it's like I play this fourth game and there's not really much of a story attached to it, whereas this kind of had both elements that the Gameplay was Super Fun. I mean it was like it's like a stealthy into the world type thing where you're fashioning weapons together from sticks you find and and loose chains you're finding in drawers and and so it's really cool and resourceful, but also the story, like I says, really compelling. So I get to the first one, like I said a couple years ago, and I'm like man, I cannot wait the second one. A second one came out and I just been waiting. Like now...

I'm in need some time because I once I start this thing, I'm not going want to put it down. So here we go. I get covid and so I start this thing and it is just a bull dozer of an emotional is not even a roller coaster, which is a bulldos it just hits you so hard. Spoilers, but yeah, it's just a very tragic story, definitely not on the caliber of the first game, to where I think the first game the story, like the direction, just made a whole lot of sense and to where, again, it's always harder to do sequels because you're dealing with characters that have been developed. So they need to behave in ways that make sense to the characters themselves and not just like hey, we need somebody to go and do this, so let's have this person go and do that, and then everybody's like, well, that person would have never gone and done that. Why I play. We already know this character for roll game. So it's hugely it's hugely argued about right now. Is Very a polarizing game, like everybody is like torn in part like into because had a huge following. Now half of the people that we liked it, hap people really don't like it. It's definitely had a lot of, you know, questionable things. It was very fun to play. The game plays very similar. Yes, some really questionable story directions or it had to play as the protagonist, protagus, the band attagonist, antagonist. Sorry, well, I'm so. And he plays the antagonist which kind of dreams the protagonist at some point, and so you're just kind of confused. You're literally fighting the character you've been playing as at the end as a boss bottle, and you're like, well, I don't want to win because I like the character I'm fighting, but you have to do it and then you're done and you're back to the other character. You want to go back and fight the antagonist. You have allness. And so, anyways, it's just emotionally draining because it's very it deals with the little, very serious things and you know it's by Bry and, yeah, what I found interesting, and this is I'm going to trying to say this without Sporting, like you get to the very, very, very, very very end and then the character makes it is it feels like something where you should have gotten to make the decision that the character makes at the very very end. Right. So, so that was a big, you know, argument. There's so was actually shocked that they didn't make that a decision that you, as a player get several points of argument are that you're playing in the second game as the first game. Just give you a little bit of point of references. You're playing is two characters, Joel and this girl that he is kind of ferrying across the United States to a separate location of his encampment. Her name is Ellie and whole things, that she's a mumes. They're trying to take her to this place they could test her to see if they can make a vaccine. It's kind of a Zombie APOPM style game. They just cast Bella Ramsay as Elie exactly on a Mormont from game of drones. She's literally on a Mormont on game of drones. One, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, the the Lady of Bear Island. Yeah, that's good. So anyways, and the whole turning point of the first game, which I will spoil because it's been out forever and well, the big twists, that kind of twist at the end, yes, six, seven, year now, is that he takes her there and they're like hey, we got her, we're going to make a cure, but we're back to kill him. And throughout the game he's kind of a really rugged guy. Joel but he's learned to love again by the end of the game. Is At the beginning, you see his daughter died and he's really borne up by this and he kind of keeps himself from attaching himself to anything. But by the end he in never really loves this school and you know he's like a father to her, and so he's sitting there with this dilemma and then eventually just says no, you can't do that, and they say well, you can't stop us, and he's forced to kill them and take her. Sorry, what does he say? He says yeah, now anyway. So that's the that's the big that's the big you know, I guess mold a lemon in the first game and that leads into the second game where you're playing now. Is Ellie and you're you and Joel are a part of this village in Jackson and it's a really nice place. Would be dead, you're but you're slowly starting to discover the like. There's a divide between the two, Ellie and Joel, because he hasn't been up front with her about what happened when he took her. She just woke up and he said, Hey, it did it turns out that they found a bunch of people with tears, so it wasn't anything that special. On these ransom tested it didn't work as opposed to telling her that he took her because he loves her. So she ends up finding that out and is really upset. And anyways, the whole the whole point of the game is that somebody so many comes and does something really mean. Ellis Ali's trying to get revenge. The whole game is at least trying to get revenge on this person. And then it has you play is that person for half of the game, which is Basar. This is what through most people off, because here we've been ellie for a game and a half, we love her and now we're like whole screw this other person. I'm not emotionally attached this one at all. You can do your best to try to get me attached, but she's not even that compelling of the character. And then, by the very end, yes, Ellie makes a decision to not get revenge on this person, after essentially throwing away her entire life to do so, time and time again, like she had many chances to be like, okay, now the game is over, because he chose them not to just like I'm going to go back. It's like, well, now the game. No, I'M gonna go back, oh my gosh, and then I can finally begin. She's like about too, and she's like Nope, not going to, and so the like. The audience is understandably just kind of like what am I? What am...

I playing like? I I very, very small member of the audience. Were like I would have done everything like they did it. Like you just lost so many people because he had so many questionable decisions. It's like by the end you couldn't have very many people at all. Be like this is exactly how I would have played it out right. Yeah, so as a long rant about something that nobody else can relate to. So I'm sorry. So we can get to a different topic, but that kind of consumed all of my emotional energy for media, I guess, in January, is the biggest thing. Again, like D Q said, we've been into some TV shows, scrubs and some other things. If we circle back to the UMICAN mentions many of other ones, but that's for sure the biggest one. I could talk about it all day long, but I hear that that's kind of the via general consensus of anyone playing the last of us, as I was emotionally spent four days after. Yeah, it really was a ant deals with. Yeah, I'm a coromoginally retro Gamer, but whenever I get around to playing whatever system I can play the last of us on, I'll, I'll, I'll definitely be playing that one because I've heard so many really great things about the story for that game. So yeah, I'm I'm on the Xbox side of the well, jump into the last of us yet, but what I've basically what I understand, like stoney's been making really cinematic game franchises for a while. Well, it's naughty dog cinematic experience. Yeah, that's well, so naughty dog, naughty dogs has to do that for a while because they did well, not that. Initially started with just well, with acts, with Jack Actor, great, yeah, that's great. Person's. Yeah, Jack to Jack to be really fun. But now they did uncharted. Yeah, uncharted, yeah, and those was what the kind of they were like, Hey, we make Indiana Jones, the movie the game. That's basically what uncharged. One, three, three, four, and then when they did last those, they're like I make a more gridia. Yeah, and it really is very pretty. Yeah, it's like as mature he did. Yeah, now I'm charted. Is Tom Holland? Huh, really, he can't possibly be paying like Nathan Drake. This is and he could get jays he's so small, though. Nathan drink is like he looks like a football player. I mean he's deaf, a spider man. Flexibility to be a Nathan how long? It's like he's ten. That will not work. I'm sorry, I love. He's gonna Moto, is going to get some miys. Is Not Tom but that is a bad casting. There's a picture of him in costume, I guess. Okay, I'm look at this sway. Have you guys seen a couple of charted fan castle firefly, Nathan Phillion, rookie Nathan Phillion? Yes, Nathan Phillion as Nathan. It's like fifteen, twenty minutes long and it's amazing. Okay, yeah, he could be a young Nathan Drake. I think that's what they're going for. He looks so this is like teenage Nathan Drake. US pretty okay. If there's a Prequel, then yeah, it was a lot. If if it's a Prequel, I find the fourth when they start a lot with it. Egad want with his childhood. I think a few other ones they may even delp someone to his childhood, but he's obviously a fun character. But it is I think in movie form it it'll feel lot like Indiana Jones, where it's I mean it's kind of like they're very fun games I played. When I played the first last of us, I was like, okay, I need to play anything by Naughty God because I'm amazing, and so I played through all the on chart. It's they're not as gripping and emotional, obviously, and I probably watched it in yeah order, peach, because I think if I played play the last of us after I might have been a little better and then like this is good just because it is APP so much out of you and deals with such heavy things that you're like, I'm feel like I'm watching a cartoon now, like I'm playing uncharted, and I might not have been able to give it, the story, enough credit, but the fourth one has has a little more depth to it where it's like him dealing with his brother too. But yeah, I felt like they were rather really like me. UN mentioned in the first Ticke he's in jail. But no, I I think that Naughty Doug has is has done a good job with this, the cinematic type games they've been coming out with. Yeah, but you're saying Reson. I suppose I so I played again. I told you, I played like the first settlement and last of us. I don't know, I just I just stopped playing it and it wasn't because it was that Yah, it was just like I started playing it and then I went it did something else. Yeah, but exciting playstation related news. All of kingdom parts is coming to PC. Interesting and any time I hear something, a game that I really love that was consoles clostive, coming to PC, I get really excited because pc means mods and that's just the best I want. I need blood bore to come to PC so bad, just so be modded and I can play it like with random minders and all the different things that come with with having a healthy modding scene it. That's it. That seems to me. That's what gives pcd edge of everything else, is the idea that, oh, here's this game that I've beaten. You know, up plays down ways, left ways, right way side, like ten ways of Sunday. I can play with my eyes closed on then the mine. That makes it completely fresh again. Or add something or add something new, like a challenge or some new items or a new way to play your game and stuff like...

...that. They someone, someone turned dark souls into a first person shooter. Think the guns of the game. They put guns and dark souls and so you get like a bunch of cross lebwls. You really like rapid fire, cross levels, and so people like run it in first person with the machine gun or stuff like stuff. I'm on like well, I bought I've got kingdom hearts one and two on for my ps two. Maybe I should finally start playing toutos. So I oh, they're fun, they're appreciate this conversation. Fun. Yeah, yeah, that's that's that's when I pick full. So they finally, they're really good. King Mark to take King Mark and two are both excellent Games. I think you it's like totally if you're alley. Yeah, but a hard one. And two our excellent Games where the story starts from. It starts from a point of you know, Sacurin Disney, ask but comprehendible, and slowly shifts to this absolute bonkers convoluted, nobody can follow what's going on. And then King of hearts three. The plot was an absolute mess. It was a fun game, don't get me wrong, I thought it was fun, but boy if the plot wasn't one of the stupidest things I ever seen in my life. And then like the stuff you do in the Disney world means absolutely nothing, like literally nothing happens. You go through like ten or fifteen worlds or whatever, and none of it means anything. The only story happens right at the beginning and right at the end, and that's the only stuff that actually happens relevant to the plot. And the highlight, the absolute peak of the monstrosity of that is the plot, is when they go to frozen world, and I think I've mentioned this. They go to frozen world right and trying to explain this to me one time, like comically, you're like, Hey, listen, I'm going to try to explain this in by the end you won't know what I'm talking about. I'm like, Oh yeah, no, I showed you. I showed you the video. I showed you the video of the Guy I got like did a cartoon trying to explain what happening to mark in thirty minutes and it's really hard to follow because it's just it's all over the place. But no, so they go to frozen world, right, and they're, you know, you're like fighting through the mountain us. Do you get to the mountain and as you get to this mountain, Sora and Donald mcgoofy seeing Elsa running up, and Elsa start singing let it go, and she's singing let it go in like she's actually saying the song. So clearly she's like this really happened. She sang us, she's sang a real song. Instruments medically appeared. I don't know where this happened, but it would like randomly cut back to Sora and Donald The goofy watching her and saying that girl looks sad. I'm like who looked at this? Then thought that? It goes to the entire song and just random cuts up. All we should go cheer her up. RSH. I like, I know some of the stuff. I don't understand how it got past quality testing. Just like mind, Um, I'm sitting. I literally dropped my control. I was like that, did that just happened or was that a fever dream I had? Because I literally I took a nap today and hey, a dream. I was playing all the way hockey with joke here. So go figure. That look like it's it. Was this a fever dream I had? Yeah, he took a shot on our goal, but someone moved our goal. We were like wait a minute. You know, it's funny. I've never gotten much into the kingdom hearts games and I feel like I can get ten of what you're saying just by looking at the cover. Or sometimes I'm like this seems I could be a dempster fire stiff, like it just seems like the things like a bad one and two. It's like somehow I like fifty of them. Can't think want because they're fun. The thing about it isn't one and two, it's it's shocky, but it's indearing, but in three is just stupid. And you're like, and it might be because there was such a long gap between games and this is like a you'reline based. None of this is an action RPG. Okay, so you're actually okay, yeah, Yase, you're actually like in it to win it, ok, but man is the die. And Hey, Joe Osmond, he was the kid from the extens that week. Right, oh, really, yeah, he does the Voice of Sora. Yes, and, Oh boy, it's a better actor than that man, and that's not his fault. He's real. It's just it's like the most atrociously written. I'm like a professional adult person got paid real money to write this dialog. It's literally like, if you've ever had a young childlike under ten years old, tell you a story, we're kind of just rambles and there's no friends of logic. That's what it feels like like. Someone, someone's like I'm I don't want to do work today. Hey, little Jimmy, he write the story for me. Oh, should dad, what's happening? Well, Sol, I just met else up. Wow, he can say, Oh, she looks sad. Yeah, it's great, kid, that's great. Yeah, R she looks sad. It's bad. It's real bad. It's really is. This is this on car with I hate say it's course and hot. It gets everywhere. It is, but they...

...a way that's just like that's it's in a way that's not the medic, in the way that you're like it's fun to say because it's so stupid. It's more like I want to, I want to shoot this person. I need to. I need to take this Arceni school and educate them how to speak English good, well, so you can't read maybe and kingdom parts, for they'll go and they will be. And the thing is, so maleficent is like one of the main villains in the first one. Yeah, so maleficent is like one of the main bills in the first one and then, starting in the second one, she she picks up Pete from for Mickey Mouse, like the big burly peak guy. Right, he's like the Antimickney. He's the Warrio to make these nicking and that's just I don't know, there was one of those. She's just like a big bully guy. Do Right. Huh. What is funny is he actually fights Yo'Na do grant, I have I know me. I'm sorry, but that's goofy's kind of nemesis. Yeah, yeah, is that what you said? Yeah, Nicky was recent Nemesis Nick's. He's a nemesis to Mickey as well. Okay, I was literally just thinking in mouse that was more boss and I'm like where is that? It's like an angry buff. Sorry, he's a villain and all these he's like all the Mickey Games. He's but he sings up with maleficent and Malemason is just like, oh, we need to go here and we'll find something that'll be useful. And she's always there, like a little bit too late and she's like well, whatever, and then like warps away like Leis it, you have done nothing, anything that do you? Go Home? It was that you got, you got your ass whipped in the first one. Go home. It's just like the first one. She was actually doing something, and none of the other ones is she actually doing something. Like sens peano these fishions, and she clearly know. I think she they're setting her up to be the big girl. And the worst part is spoilers for for P parks three. The villain at the very end the the the ghost of the Good Guy, a teacher like Matt, magically shows up and just like hey, buddy, let's go to heaven and that guys like. Okay, they do, like what that's it's it sounds like a terrible it's there. It's really fun to play. That's the thing. It's really fun to play. So the game plays a game play a solid okay, but boy, this is my story, dumb, and I was trying not to skip cut scenes the first time I play through, but I was like, so, mad man, and that's not what you've been playing this moll so you just wanted to rant. No, I I just know. I saw is that kingdom hearts is coming to pc and I'm going a hundred percent. He is geeking out of it. This is true. It's fair game. Yeah, it's a it's a that that definitely qualifies is geeking out. So I hate nathaniel. Is Jason Coming through? Yeah, I'm good. Yeah, that you guys were like talking at the same time and I could he yeah, Jason started to talk any kind kind of bounce in and out a couple times, and I think it's trying to Daniel step. Let me also cutting in out. Let me switch my Internet up quick, my heart, and be use by all accounts, it doesn't make sense. All right, we're all right, Jason, go ahead, it's a jason, won't you? Why don't you go ahead, since I know you've got a jump sooner than me? So, oh, let's see. Well, I have, like many, many people, have been watching one division, which I don't know if I want to get into too much. It's a one division is also on my list as well. So I have not watched today's episode, though. So I have not. I haven't either deserve her. Other my mother is out of town and I will watch it without her because, drum that's only weave been eating over and so I do want to talk about that like a little bit, just like so I'm not want to talk about one division. You're investing all eyes. So yeah, Ja, Jason Far Away. So it's like leading up into that all table AFT bread, the signs talking to jump back to it. And I went back through and I reading some of the comics that kind of I feel like we're inspirations for the show like ahead of time and then like during it's been reading, rereading a comic called just called division by Tom King, which is excellent and I kind of feel like is it's one of the ones that Kevin Pikey is said was on his desk while he was writing wand division, and it barely has the starlet which in at all, but it has basically the idea behind it. Is the vision. Decides that he would like to do something a little bit different and he builds himself a Syntho zoid family. He literally builds himself a white and too robot teenage, hits HMM, kind of craziness incus from there, but...

...he moves into the suburbs. It's just them trying to be normal, like normal humans. And then it starts off kind of like wand division does, where it's kind of like this picturesque thing and then there's a line of dialog at the end of the first issue and it's like Oh, this is then it kind of moves on from there. But highly recommend it, especially if people are being enjoying one division. I want a little bit more. But also reading up on reread house of them, which is a comic in which scarlet, which that's a this the one about the guy who makes the really good pancakes. Right. No, no, no, that's international house of pancakes. No Way, that sounds way dirtier than pancakes. Sounds like a strip club. Yeah, okay, that's my that's my next like Magic Mike Movie. Yeah, house of them, House of mancakes. Jason, who did you say was the author on the Vision that series that you've mentioned? Top game. Thank you. I'm writing that down. What did you say? It's a real man cakes's and then like I reread a house of them, which is the story a while back that Brian Michael End us, which has the scarlet which rewriting reality, and feel like that's another one. I'm probably going to reread adventures this assemble to the other one, also by Benness, scarlet, which kind of having some some emotionalitures. No, those are all have. They explain how she still has her powers. So that thought our powers came from the reality stone or mindstone or whichever, and that is no longer in existence. I know in the comics it's because she's Magneto's daughter, right, yeah, he just has powers. Well, it was that, it wasn't. They can't really agree on her Org Fox, mutants and magneto right the May. So she wasn't one. I guess. I don't know. It's but I think the the role was that they could not say the word mutant and any Disney marvel film and now, well, now that duds the owns marvel. I don't. I mean if he'd seen last week's episode, I mean, you know, some lines are being cross yeah, ars every world. WTF is happening? Also, I don't care, this is wonderful. Yeah, I'm convinced that this is there, that this and winderfount power, winter soldier and all the all the lead series that they're doing are preparing us for doctor strange's multiverse of madness. We're they going to be like and we can do whatever we want now because it's the multiperson. How I DC is doing but without actually doing it, because DC, I mean they had the cross of our infinite earths or prison infinite earth is. So they did do that. But I feel like they because they think they isolated all their different like the movies are onetome duty and shows, the onetop nuty, this and that. The other words, marvel looks like it's all the same thing. Well, they've actually said that one division, the next spider man movie and Dr Strange multiverse of badness are all tied together. Yeah, so, because spider man are all they talked about the multiverse a little bit. It's like, Hey, there's an idea that's out here, we're going to make it into a fake out, but then we're really going to we're gonna do it right, right, right, and so I've been really, really enjoying one division because, first of all, it's very different from basically everything else marvels time. You know, it gets me most. I like doctor strange and the first a man, where they're like we're going to do some some very different things. Right, it's not, yeah, just going to be your typical marvel movie, which they did get pretty formulaa right. I think it's been really interesting. He's been a very breaf for hair is hilaritious apparent. Oh Yeah, they consulted with Nick Fan tight and to canerd. You no idea that endgame was the winningest, the highest gross in film the whole time, and they told him. He's like, oh, that's wonderful. He is, he has a gym, he's so precious. So so they consulted with the bandit to get the I think the first two episodes were filmed, or at least partially filmed, the front of a light of live audience. Yeah, really, yes, okay, I didn't know that. I will because I knew the first the first episode is totally a parody on Dick Van Dyke and then a second one is the which, Yep, and it's been interesting, right, because it there's it's nine episodes, right, and then kind of going jumping a decade every episode. Yeah, so they're going to get up three odds in the two ten of the two thousand and twenty and then the now. Yeah, so it's I'm really intrigued if...

...that's they're going to continue that kind of jumping to the show jumps a decade in terms of style. Every episode. It's been really real good. But there was one line. I don't want to spoil at anything, but this a line in the show where they're like the universe Davis a Sitcom and I looked at my family was like did Kevin Baty renamed himself to the universe? I missed that one. Yeah, I tweeted that but nobody got it that. I really love that mine where they were like so you're you're assuming the universe created a Sitcom. Starry to the avengers and she's like it's just the working theory. Yeah, I'm invested that. I Love, Love, love. They brought it and Darcy and Jimmy Woo and the whole I he's so good. Oh my gosh, only be my maybe the Keanucy first. Well, he's great in that entire movie. I needed to have sooners that movie. I fell asleep like right before like the last twenty minutes of the movie. But you saw the Keanus, this Keanu scenes, right, yeah, Oh, yeah, yeah, I know, I saw that. He's wonderful people. People really want them to do like a spin off now, with like Darcy and Jimmy Wu just being like the x files of the harmless. I feel like this because I would totally crap out of that. I will take more. What's his name is? It's a park, randall, park, Randall Park. I will take any any more Randal Park I can get. Is Good by. Maybe he's Asian. Jim Helpers. That's a really good way to describe. Well, no, well, you, well, you dude, because you don't like the office. You probably didn't want the office. Okay. So, so there's a there's a cold. Even that that. So pause that, personect pause that for second. Ashley, so I haven't watched that much of the IFS, but even that time I came over, I went over to Greg's house and they were watching until the office that I finished it. It was like in the fifth season or whatever, and I hate it, like don't even even later seasons. It's still the exactest stuff I hate. Okay, well, that's that's fair. But the but there there's a cold open where Jim pulls up for rank on d white. Jim and pamphle would prank on d white, tummated white. Think that Jim has been a in the entire time. Oh, I think I saw like a yeah, so its their friend that they get. They get to come in to play. Jim Is is played by Randall Park. Where are you, car? Is it perhaps to you for not seeing race? Jim's not Asian. James even like the shop. Well, the icing on the cake is that he kisses, kisses pleasure Pam and looks his mom. Should you can't be jimmy grabs like the picture off of his desk and it's a picture of like Pam, the Asian Guy, and like their Chinese child there too, as children in life. It's like thank for me, like watching aunt man in the wasp. But what do I know who this guy is? He is so familiar. Why do I know? And and like I'm like covertly checking imdb in the movie theaters, like, Oh, it's Asian Jim Helper. Oh, I also love that he did that. He did a little card trick. Yeah, yeah, as a nice thought. So that was the best that. Like he could like flip out his card like he was. He was doing the slide of him man like. That's like yeah, and that's one of the things I've really, really, really loved about. One Division is the small nods, not just the the ohms is to sit comes through the ages, which I think is wonderful, but but also the the the the subtle things, the little things that hits. They've been dropping about the Marvel Universe is a whole. It's there's like, you know, big ones, but there's also more subtle ones. It's just been really, really fun to watch and I'm on the edge my sheet like, oh, what's going to happen next? And now I'm of the opinion like if marlow decided to not do movies and just in miniseries, I think I'd be okay with that, because this is then excellent. Now, of course this is the first one, so we have to see how the other ones turn out, but you know, I really want to see low key, I really want to see popping winter soldier. So and it wasn't meant to be the first one too, which I think is part of why people are so like weirded out by it. The book to get the stopping winter soldier certain to be like the traditional marvel thing, and then wand divisionally supposed to come after it was like the weird experiment and it definitely wasn't supposed to be like over a year since you've had any contents from them before you, you know, watched one thousand nine hundred and fifty Sitcom to the first time. Yeah, right, but what I think is what I think the the what I'm really happy about it is that people love it, and so I'm hoping Disney looks at this and says, Oh, look, we could do more experimental things and people will buy it, they will consume a so didn't can...

...say that about anything. Let's be really but but I think I story want to be cool. Success is really important because it was so experimental. It opens the door for Kevin Beigi to be like hey, this worked really well. Now we could do even more, because they're doing like moon night and and they're kind of opening the door to and low key and they're opening the door to a lot of more experimental, weird, shorter run things. I think this is all really good thing. Yeah, yeah, well, well, and Jason, I don't want to interrupt because I know you may have more things to say about one division, but I have some stuff to add about one division as well. Yeah, well, so what I love so as a, you know, the the resident retro file of the Group, I am totally adoring all of the old Sitcom spinoffs, because her, but because I've watched a lot of those. But I think my favorite this past episode is that it was a hybrid of full House and family. Yeah, and that the the fact that the theme song was so very close, like within like an inch, of the family ties theme song, that I could almost sing along, well, like with the original family ties theme, but not quite like I was like, man, is that not thematic of everything that is occurring in this is, in this show is something is off just a bit and make and you can't quite place it in its visions. Hair pulled that ny is is just wonderful. He's like and Wlisabeth Olson and like, I'm the only other thing I've ever seen Elizabeth Olson. And besides, like you, the Avenger stuff is Godzilla and and like, and I and like, honestly like that first Godzilla movie. I fall asleep every time I try to watch and it's not because I'm disinterested in Godzilla. It's like it's just it's so slow, so slow first episode sea, but, but, but, I like with this I'm just like man, she's hilarious and she's hysterical and then like I s you know, after I'd was like wait a second, she's Mary Kate Nashley's little sister. If she's just on a full house like spoof, that's hysterical. Yeah, yeah, there's a lot of there's a lot of layer out there. Yeah, yeah, I also appreciate that during the first episode people were like what happened to her accents? And that's totally explained. They're like there's that's totally explained. Yeah, that's legit. Well, I think good bounce back off one of the things that you said about it just being just a little bit off. I think that's what makes it so effective. Is like classic television is kind of like the like the comfort food of like TV for me, you know, I grew up watching a lot of those those too, and it's the kind of thing that you go to just to like distress and you know it's going to be wholesome and all that kind of stuff. So when they gear off of that, even if it's just for thirty seconds at the end of the firth episode. It's very effective without them having to do very much of anything. You Call Boohoo and just feeling that little bit of tension of something being off in that type of format. It's almost creepy. It's it makes it so great. Yeah, it's very and and one of the things I like is the characters are asking the questions that we are asking. So the characters are are responding to what's going on in a way that feels very realistic. They're like, wait a minute, I thought this was the case. So what's go so it's so there. The mystery is unfolding for the characters in the show as UN unfolding for us, and I think that always works very well when, when, when the characters that you're watching learn at the same pace that you do, like in like in Momento, like as he as he uncovers things, you're uncovering them as well, sure the same connection that he is, and so it provides a better leak between you and the person you're watching, and not just the characters in the doe but the characters in the show in the shoe. Right, right, right. It's super interesting. Oh, major revelations. I think they they did a really good job like keeping you on the hook, like what's going on? There's something sinistery, what's going on? What's going on? And then they've kind of open it up and they're still like they open it up a lot in the last episode, but there's still like there's something even more going on this right. So there's there's much more going on than even like Wanda understands of what's happening, and that's that's fascinating. I think the other thing that I'm really loving about wand division is watching them do like a weird, offbeat, very like daring comedy. Really makes me excited for what they're going to do with she hulk because so so she hulk is my all time favorite superhero. Who Do they they have the castor, yes, Tatiana Moss Lannie, who she had like a small, like one off roll, important wreck, like in like a two or three episodes sequence. She was the doctor without up borders. Oh okay,...

...yeah, but the main thing she's known for is she was the lead in orphan black, which is a BBC America Sci fi series a few years ago which, to be honest, is one of the best original Scifi things to come out in literal decades. But she plays a she plays a young lady who finds out that she is not only a twin but she is a clone. Must Connect. Yeah, I thought I sorry, I thought I had come this connected. No, no, you're good. So you said Tatiana Maslani. Tatiana Maslani. Yes, not to complain, but she's five for if you're five for Angia, how can you get a Canadians play someone who's supposed to be angry? It makes no sense. HAVE NOT WATCHED ORPHAN? There like sixteen different characters in that in that show, and I literally forgot it was the same actress Multiple Times. Oh, I'm sure she's a great actress, so good at like differentiating between all of the characters. And sorry, I was pram that's DQ. That's not enough. What we have proper having problems in the AGO has cut. It's somebody hating the Radio Ashley which had the last time. Who's doing to see you? Actually, we have a last track for a podcast. Like she can, she's able to differentiate between all of those characters so well. It's like doing like Jennifer Walters and she hoped. That's a breeze. And let me gonna be clear. I'm being completely facetious when I when I make those jokes about her be big, five four, if it's, if it's help at all, I mean she is actually folks is six foot seven. Yeah, right, so good luck find me. So's actually six points. They exist. You know that are legit. You have to go to Sweden when Christy, who's six foot three? Yeah, you'd have to go to Sweden. Would need a high, sweetish actor. Yeah, and and your point about the angry Canadian. I mean this is the marvel. You know. Will just imagine she's playing hockey all the time. Oh yeah, wolverines, Canadian. Sorry, sorry, what? What you didn't what you didn't realize is on each one of wolvers clause the word story is written out a bud I. I love, Love Love Tati on Themslani. When I found out she was cast as she hoped, I legit screen and I think us five foot free and like in my head, like if I were a superhero, I want to be she hoped, but I know he probably Squirrel girl. Hey, squirrel girls the strongest character the Marble universe. So she's unbeatable. So you know, it's it's great. But she's also the greatest in Lego Marvel superheroes, because if you mash the be bunch you would throw a little lego squirrels. It was like the cutest thing ever and just wrecked. Everything's like anyway, like like if I I was very I personally felt very validated by, you know, Fi foot for totting on the boslons a Che fulk. You know, you know I mean. Honestly, the height thing, I'm not worried about it. I mean, if they can make so, I'm not worried. But Davies, you know, be a dwarf. It's yeah, yeah, movie magic can do a lot of it. issue. There's this when we really high heels, really high heels. If you know Jackson can play Wolverine, then Talktiana, muscle and me really y'all. You know, it's fine. I would say get off your high horse, but I mean, you know, whoever, it's not. It's weird anyway. Anyway, I'm I'm very, very excited. One Division makes me excited for what they're going to do with you hope, which is just going to be a half hour comedy. Yeah, I agree. I. Yeah, so one division has made me excited for everything that the mcu is doing. Ashley, what's you been doing this month? All right, so in my role as staff writer at Fan Girlish, I covered a few different shows, but one of them bled into January, first couple weeks of January, and that was star trek discovery. So, Nathaniel, have you finished star Trek Discovery? I did, I did. I thought it was great. I thought it was great as well. And no spoilers, because Jason, I know you haven't gotten to star trek as every yet. Way You still the next and Jason, I have you moved on to dsnine. We got into DSNI and we're taking a break. It was a lot of a lot of stars that kind of short period of time. HMM, fair, wait, I mean I'm all like Whoo, but I write all star trek all the time. But leave the goodies. What I'll say about star trek discovery, without without spoilers, is that one thing that I really enjoyed about this season was that there was this perpetual thread...

...of hope throughout every single episode, which, while I have, I have love Star Trek discovery from the beginning, one of the complaints about it was that it was verier dark and it didn't have that same kind of hopefulness that that most other star trek has. I think this season they really interjected a lot of that hope throughout the throughout throughout the this the the run of the season, and I you know, in a world as tumultuous and what's the right world like adversarial as ours like, even even if it was done in a way that may not be entirely realistic, the fact that they could have stories that reflected that hope about humans working, you know, still acknowledging that we're very different and we view the world differently, but we're able to work together and move Lord together. That was something I desperately need in twenty of you throughout two thousand and twenty and in going into two thousand and twenty one. I just I personally needed that and it was very, like, emotionally Cathartic every single week. But for me, like the biggest thing this season was the the validation, in the affirmation of Soviet Sylvia, tilly in this season of start trek discovery. My my brothers felt that very emotionally salient. My brother, my mixinger brother Ethan, and my older sister Hannah, they apparently do not like tilly and I'm like, are you kidding me? Be and my dad are like, tillie's such a great character. How do you know like tilly? They're just like, oh, Tillie of me. Okay, her hair is ridiculous, but in a good way. Does not have a lot of hair and like I have to cut my hair short for my hair to do anything period. Like right, Tilly's like epic Maine of Ginger Curls are just a wonder to me. I was like, this is amazing. Yeah, I think she's a great character. A I think she doesn't have the how do I say this in the way that doesn't sound what I'm like. I'm complaining. She has a different body type than you typically see from female leads and I think it's great. I think she's awesome. I think it's yeah, I think that's I think this that's really good that they took someone who has a she she's more shapely, she's a sturdy girl, she's story girl, but, you know, I think she's gorgeous. Yeah, she's she's got, you know, broad shoulders, she's she's heavy sets, not that I work as well. You say, Hey, does that? People assume she stayed away, but she's not. You're like she's, she's just say Damn, she's Meso morphit. I think it's damn, girl, she's awesome. That's one of my favorite parts of the show. And so when my brothers like yeah, Tillie, every time she comes, till probative like, shut up, she's great. Yeah, no, you, I mean with you and pop that. That's awesome. I so what I really love about Tilly, aside from like she's built like me, to her hair is play more epic than mine. I swear he gets frizzier every episode. It's going to be an Afron season for it takes up. I'm here for it. It's beautiful. Oh, but what I love about her is so so back in December I actually got tested for Adhd and the result was, while I do not have Adhd, I have a lot of the markers of somebody with adhd. And so the way that tilly reacts to stuff like how she can hyper focus and that she did really excited and that she she talked about the first fbomb is in Star Trek history. That was yeah, yeah, that was weird. ABOMENT happened. Yeah, okay, so, but I personally, like I've never liked. So there's only like maybe two or three like fictional characters that I've never liked watching, like in a television show, where I was like, Oh wow, that's like watching me. One you bring a part theater Manica Yeller, the and then the third is so the attilly and and tilly like embodies like all the hyper and exuberant parts of me that are either really wonderful or really annoying. But but also like watching her affirmation, like the line in episode two where sorrow says to tilly, you are a wonderful first impression. I cried. Yeah, like I love Sorrutus, who said, yeah, like Sir Rot. So so weird seeing him without his makeup. So I I've had the pleasure of meeting Doug Jones, like and so that's not the first time I've ever seen him without makeup because I've actually met him in person. But like, you watch him in anything, like he's always like a monster or a creature or an alien or like he's never like his normal, like Dapper, handsome man self and then and and this was Doug Jones being Doug Jones. Well, why, yeah, now, I said, he really is like and he has that...

...kind of warm and and carrying persona that sorrow has as well, and I really love that about him. I think SARREU was the other really big highlight for me this season was that he made all he made all the right decisions, he did all the right thing. Oh Oh, we lost that. Okay, I was like, Ash, she's pausing for a really long time. Actually, it's okay, he's okay, Tuh, it's all right, you back. Yeah, so I say, I think so. I think so, okay. So what I was saying a thought star who is like, he embodies like servant leadership. MMM and and that's so rare to see on television in any it for any TV show period. It doesn't have to be a science fiction show or whatever, but like that was such a breath of fresh air to watch somebody lead with humility versus like. I mean like and, and that's not to say like that Star Trek has not seen like leaders that leave with humility. But you have picard, who was very much like the boy scout. You have archer and and Kerk, who are like Gung Ho cowboys. You've got Jane Way, who's like the Stern, like decisive person, but you have sorrow, who is gentle and kind and and and and leads by leads by serving care and birds crew, like, my goodness, like that was. That was very emotionally compelling. What what I was really interest about? to Ru is. I always forget because he's like so kind and gentle and then when he gets in a fight he just like yeat someone across the room into a bulk at you're like, Oh my God, I forgot. He's like super human strong. Oh yeah, they did us. That was that grab someone and like with some in half, like damn, Damn. Well, I was wonderful, it was like. And that that's always really fun to watch him in a fight scene where he just like like knocks out like five one fells. I was like damned, Sir Rude. Yeah, it's awesome. It's awesome. Your night. Yeah, I do Love Mess Toru. I love my sulsers. So I was I'll just say a couple things about discovery. I love the season, but pop and I had the exact same pay. You want to know that? What the worst thing about the season was is that Michael I spared every lie, nearer thing she was saying literally go back in and it wasn't something I wasn't thinking about until my dad was like can we turns? We need to subtitles on. I cannot. My Dad has went to Dr about it. He has like a little bit of hearing loss, so it was really hard for him to hear anything that Michael was saying because she was I watched almost everything which the subtitles on right way. So, but she literally ever spots with the subtitle, she little lovers every lie and a miss in a whisper and it's like why is she doing this? She didn't do this in the first season. She whispered a little bit in the second, but every single it's it was UN I couldn't stop noticing it. Once my dad pointed it out, I was like, oh my gosh, she's actually whispering every single line right up until she like, you know, get gets yourself together and and is issuing orders. Then she's, you know, speaking normally, but every other like you're not Batman, stopped, we need but I also watched everything with the subtitles. So so I had that that I totally missed that I love. I love watching. I know I'm a I'm a Michael Burnham Fan. Oh, yeah, I'm too, so, but I just I really, really love Tonqua Martin Green. She's great. Oh yeah, no, I don't think. I had no complaints other than the fact that it was really hard to hear some of her lives. Yeah, anyway. Anyway, so starture discovery that that was a breath of fresh year that I really needed in entertainments. So that that's that's one of the things I've you know, that plus one division. Those are the two name like TV shows. I peeped out about the gay Nice Nice. So so what I'm hearing is when it comes to tilly, of course I know, so, I so what? So, okay, January was pretty sparse for me. I did finish Avatar, the last airbender, which was so good. It's really stinking good. I was ripped the live action twist hard. I go, Oh and my son alone. Thing done. How can you do this? This is oldrageous. It's on fair. It was really, really good. I haven't seen legend of Coor. I've heard it's not as good. Can't judge it. Haven't watched it. Just what we seen legend of core seemed like the first season. Would you agree? It's not as good. Yea Good seasons. It bludgeon cord gets better second seasons because the first season was like a twelve issue mini or like not twelve is sue episode. Like I said, I read the way to any common yeah, they actually get a little bit...

...more space de Breeze and actually tell a story in the later seasons, and so it gets better. It's never quite as good, but it's got some good stuff. Yeah. So, so finished up at last. airbender. Absolutely fantastic. Love it from start to finish. I think it's just really, really, really good. So just it's it reminds me in a very good way of teen titans. It's, you know, it's Goofy, but it has heart and Sakka is just a great character. Tough is one of the I'm yeah, nothing, it's tough as one of the best characters in fiction and they did such a get out with her. So Ashley, you would absolutely yeah there. So tough is this blind character to this little girl who could earth been and she's like the best earth beender ever, and so she kicks all sorts of ass. He's awesome. But she's blind. So whenever there's a scene going on, someone who like walk up to the group is start talking to them and everyone will turn their head except for top, will just stare blankly ahead because she's blind. And they do a really, really good job of emphasizing that. Anytime everyone's looking at something tough, is looking at the obvious, at the rect like straight ahead, like straight ahead and slightly down, because she doesn't look at things. They do a really good job of she does not show her head to look at things. It's really good. That's really also. Yeah, it did a really good job with it. You really did that. But it's just so funny watch everyone's turn head. Tops like right, but it's so great and he's also but I was gonna say, okay, yeah, I'm gonna say hilarious and sarcastic about her blindness to all the time, like their scenes where she's they're like flying out over a jet or looking for a building. She suddenly is just like there it is. Hand start laughing as their yeah, she's, she's he's very funny. I Love I love. I don't want to spoil it, but but there's a part where Salka Saka, who's really great but has kind of a tragic love life, is talking with one other guy and there's just like and the other guys like man, Lifepan hard. You know that? Da and sids like. I get it, man, I really do. My first girlfriend turned into the moon, right, so it's just like that's rough, buddy, it's but it's really excellent. Uncle, I wrote is such a stray part. I love him so much, as is obsession with tea. It seems I supposed to cry up spuilt teas, just so sad. See, supposed to this this t shirt for it for Ryan, my husband, for Christmas, and I totally slip past me. One of the one of the editors, are at fan girl wish has has his futuret but it's a picture of Iro and it says make tea, not war. Awesome. Yeah, so I she sent me a link forward. I'M gonna get it for Ryan, but I intended to order for Christmas for him and I totally for at. But Anyway, I understand. I row and his love of tea. Doesn't Mark Hamill play like a villain in the show later? Yeah, yeah, very, very, very love. Yeah, okay, okay, all right. So I've heard lots of wonderful things about Adamon good and love it. I just have not had the mental energy to commit myself to another TV show. Yeah, it's like it sounds like sixty episodes to or something. Okay, that's thought. Yeah, so each season, quote unquote, is like twenty episodes. All right, all right, it's preasonable, really good. So see the other thing I watched. So I obviously watch the yacht one division. I've been watching back through because we finished. So I've been watching you want, my mom and I were watching through Avatar because we're like the only ones in the family hadn't seen it. So we got yelled at by our by my siblings, for not watching Avatar. So we watched all of it and we finished in January and then I was like, okay, what should we watch next? And we wanted to go watch gallivant, which, if you've never watched it, was this amazing two season long comedy musical fantasy show. I hold I would enjoy. I really enjoyed Gal then, but I've never watched and it was Timothy Omenson was the evil king. Yeah, and I don't remember who the three leads were, but they are hysterical and it's, you know, it's a musical and so you know they're singing songs and things like that, and the the opening number of the second season is them singing about how shock they are they didn't get canceled and it's it's really, really, really funny. And Timothy Oddenson like starts off as this character. He's just like the evil game, he's doing evil things, but then later he ends up being like this really sympathetic, hilarious character. He's like ends up joining the droning forces with the the good guys and he walks down the stair well like to come in. They can't...

...captures all them and he could. Walks on the stairs like well, well, well, but that wasn't good. Again, box part of the stays. WHOA, Whoa. It's so speaking good. So I can't recommend allment. It's not it's not streaming anywhere. So we did not watch that, but instead we will. I we started watching young justice and we just got into season three. I've been meaning to watch that, even though I'm not up on my DC but because Greg wiseman did and he's the creator of Garbl it's. Yeah, it feels good. Now the third season is way more intense than the first two seasons, like right off the bat, much more violence, much more graphic. I still not like super super graphic, but they're showing blood now for showing some people dying. Well, that was a that was a right streaming. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, we were something, but it got canceled. Form. That selling enough boys. YEA The spectic story line about like you know that's gotta happen. Yeah, it's pretty it's pretty intense, but it's really good. I know. I know that mom was enjoying when she said Hey, let's watching on justice instead of me saying hey, mom, let's watching justice. So we watch the first two seasons now. Well, we have to determine throughout the series is that DC is the freaking worst at naming things. It's unbelievable how bad they are, and I'm calling you out to see. Your naming is terrible. What's this guy? Well, he's got a skull and he's his face is a skull and he's radioacted. Okay, well, that's a Thoma skull. And now admitterally, these are the guys who had superman and Batman. So, but those guys are like household name, but it's like everyone whore you. While I am an archer and I wear green, Green Arrow. Who Are you? I'm an archer and I wear Red Red Arrow. Like I'm an archer and I rape were red, but I also have done. I'm Arsenal arsenal right, it's it's all then at so my mom was just like look at me, like mom, DC are masters of naming. There the the wizards of nomenclature. It's that whenever you shows were good, like the thing I think about was an episode of Team Titans where the villain they were fighting in the cold open was a was a fall guy named cardiac. And Robbins has cardiac. You're under arrest. Yeah, I was like, wow, he's there. All right. Yeah, well, I look at that. I got a head out a little bit earlier. So y'all, keep the party gone, but I'm happy seeing you recommendations for January for you. The other thing that I started watching, and it was very sad story, is I started watching a show called sanctuary. It's on Scifi. A while back had a manda tapping was the lead character as Carter Itchan Carter, Carter Colonel No, sorry, you're our ter from store GAATE. Yeah, are you? Carter? Would go marvel, but yeah, yes, yes, on Star Gate right be leading this series. We got really into it. We got a full season into it on Amazon and then it started playing the next episode when we were like, what the world is happening? The previously on made no sense and apparently Amazon has season one and season four. How does that work? So I have that's so what is it kind of work on that? Than it's I't remember this happening. The premise is basically it's happening. Runs a sanctuary for what they call abnormal, which can be anything from like mythological creatures to like sci fi like things. It's just like such like different like different versions of Mutati humans or that kind of thing. So, like in the first episode you see that they have like Bum Mermaid and there's like they end up talking about vampires. They they can basically it's a very wide premise, so they can bring in basically wherever they want. But there's some intrigue to her character to like she is in a normal herself who's lived for hundreds of years and has they go back to her back story and you meet other like historical or maybe fictional characters that she is interacted with, and it's pretty cool show. So I would recommend it if you can find, you know, somewhere where you can watch more than Susan. And the other thing I started wanting in the anime that I really enjoy that a lot of people love in her own it's called will for rising and it's essentially it's another one of those people to get trapped in in the ESA guys anime.

Yes, and he sick. I and the thing about this when is the main character about a sport class character, kind of like a dirty, introverted guy who's more of a strategist, and so it's less action focused than more like, oh, we're stuck in this world now, we got to figure out a lift here and like you know. But I the reason I started watching that again is it was canceled after the second season because the author of the books that was based on was arrested taxiva. Whoops, but we gotta apparently we got out. The third season started up in gym. So but it's a it's a really cool show, very interesting if you look like it. Actually the mechanics that they explain to the world actually feel like a video game to or like a the video game comes to life. So it's a lot of fun. Those are kind of my too. Rapid Fire. You can find somewhere to watch. Thank you, ary. It's pretty great and the log risings really cool show. Nice, Jason. One of the things I was going to talk about is as a local place here in Charlotte called Biz art video, which boasts the largest collection of films on the East Coast, and I I've written down sanctuary. I'm going to look for it when I go on Sunday, when my movies are do so let that a sink in the actual still rents physical movies. Ashley does, because Ashley the goes oats old school, and that makes me that much cooler. Right. Probably you've dumb this and it well, I gotta sign off, guys, but it's been fun. All right, get eye body. So before I forget, I have to use you said something at some point, Nathaniel, I don't know, but it was. It was somebody like like sneaking in some kind of sneaky line. Oh to whears, like cardiac. You're under arrest. So I was watching just because I'm useless and I have no life. I was watching like finishing moves or something from mortal Kombat. Oh, you were watching ftalities. Yeah, and so and so. That's do. So they don't really Ram Rambo is now a playable character and so new in the new ones. Rambo as a playable character, and so is the terminator, and so and and Predator, I think. Yeah, and so thenny and so. So Rambo comes in, right and it in. WAS RANDOM YOUTUBE VIDEO I was watching has each characters response to Rambo showing up and he they're all detailed. Rambo like man, you killed a lot of people, like you're the government's best or whatever, all these and then one of the guys looks at him and he goes, he goes man like like, like, he goes all did. He says, you've killed a lot of people. Must have a serious heart for demolition man. Oh, they did not. And like like, I I think it's I think it's I forget the character. You could probably find it Jack's. I think it's Jack's reacts to Rambo and he he gives a nod to demolition man. Else comes on single hand. It would add, be done. You got it. Yeah, Damn. Listen, yes, it is all right, okay, sorry, that's awesome. So I'm going to to Manga recommendations because I started rewatching Manga for rereading, rereading Manga Slime Life, which I think I might have mentioned on on on the podcast of horse slime life, which is about a blackmaige runs a like a magic good store and has to hire a monster to help her frum the store and ends up hiring a slime and is like, Oh, you know, I'm supposed to have a really powerful monster to help me. I'm going to be embarrassed, but the slime is so adorable she's like, okay, I'm not going to fire you. And it's about, you know, the sligne learning to work at the store and their adventures and it's the most adorable thing ever. It's just super hard worry and then a hundred chapters in it hit you with this like emotional gut punching like when did this this goofy mega about this adorable slime and his adventures? Suddenly, you know have etearing, tearing up over what has happened. But it's so funny, it's so on on. This line is such a likable, lovable character. I can't recommend that one, though I can't really explain more than x is kind of a think he gets into a situation as he's all by the end of the chapter. HMM. But it's really, really good and that definitely recommend it. And all the chapters are really short there like pretages, so you could blow through it. It's but it's so endearing. The other one I'm going to recommen and is, as I think, one of the best best magazines ongoing right now, which is I don't know the English name, but it's called myriy much Eata Rumakum and if if you look at just really will find it. But it's about this kid whose parents are just the worst parents ever. They're like, Oh, you're one year old, you can you can walk now. That means you get to work, and so they like they're horrible parents. They're they're always putting even dangerous situations like throwing him to...

...bears and wild tuna, and he's like all these maths, situations and colonies in him, and then selling him to a demon. So he gets sold to this demon and it's Steven is like, I just want you to be my grandson. So he and yeah, and and and he has this thing where he's such a nice kid that he can't say no to anyone. So the devils like he my grandson and he's like okay, so he comes his kids. This guy fans on. This guy is like if you really high level demon in the beams, like the one of the top three demons, the one that everyone is assuming he's going to take the throne, is the beating king, and and so he's he likes sends him to school and the Demon is the principle at the school. And so it turns out Karuma obviously is a human and Demon C humans. So he's freaking out, but he ends up going to class and it turns out that he, because of how hit of his upbringing, he is invincible, like he can't attack anyone. But it shows his like stat box and it's like attack, Zero, defense, infinity, because he's so used to getting a dangerous situations that his body was naturally dodge everything. So he and everyone ends up assuming he's this really powerful demon and he starts making all these ends and he's such a heartward character. He'St like teaching the Demon's like what his friendship mean, the things like that. It sounds really, really sacrim I say, but it's really adorable. And the currently in an arc where he had to cross dress to become a legged idol the help one of his classmates and there's this other idol who's been calling him ugly and he's getting like really mad about it because he's like I also supposed to be cute, right, if I'm an idol, I'm cute. So he's like really mad, like we have to win this is. It's really funny, it's really adorable and he's like such an adary character. So I'm going to recommend those two big time, and then, of course Avatar after a last airbunding. Young Gust is higher recommend those. I just watched all three John Wicks. Those were fun or just used first of all? Yeah. So, yeah, I watched all say I need to revisit those Ze but I think I've only seen the first one and I don't remember anything about it other than Keanu muses in it. And they hasn't a fight with a gas he gets in a fight at a gas station with Alfie Allen, who was be on gray joy on game of we can just call them fail yeah, actually, he doesn't need to fight the gas station. I'll beion comes to his house and beat him up and kills his dog. Oh Oh no, but no, management confrontation is at a gas station. And have a conversation at the gaps. Yeah, where he's like Nice car, like let me see it. Then he just like John Wick, just like doesn't say anything, drives off. He's like that guy. That's what he goes. So yeah, okay, let's I'm trying to think if I have any recommendation. Well, you think I have one more thing. Sorry. So one of the Games I played, one of the narrative games I played, was Wolfenstein the new order, which was kind of the read, re read boot that they did for the Wolfenstein series, and it takes place to kind of alternate history. s were Nazi Germany won the war because they had all this crazy technology that they stole from Jews. Like the Jews had the secret society where they're the secret society called dot you should, which was basically like they make technology to get closer to God, and so they made all these crazy weapons, but that's just like stored them and the Nazis found one and use that to take over the world. And so the culminates with you stealing a giant submarine, which I've been in a submarine. This submarine was way too big, like if you ever if you ever been on a submarine, he is loostrophobic as hell. Everything is packed in tight, like there's enough room in a hallway for one person to walk through, because it's you know, they cramped everything that they could do this. This thing has like six levels and like giant open spacing, like what submarine have you been in? But anyways, they steal the submarine. They can't use the nukes because they have to go get the the launch codes from the Nazi moon base. So you last fision is you go to the Nazi moon base and he'd steal the codes on the moon. It's it was a really fun game, really interesting game, good take on the whole World War Two, killing Nazis by brands planning and making all the characters, all the characters, just feel like they're just exhausted and there's like this one little ray of hope they might be able to do something. So it was really good. I enjoyed it a lot. Would recommend it it. I was trying to think of other things that I've been into this month. I mean, obviously, like I said, I'd Covid, so a lot of TV show watching me and me and D Cuban watching scrubs. I definitely could talk about the last of us for a longer period of time than I did. been playing age of Empires. There's not a ton talk about there. It's a diet kind of strategy. You Know Ts, RTS, one of the best ever made. Yeah, very, very, very good computer game. And for the the UNINITIATED, to you all, tell me what RTS stands for. Real type strategy, form theological seminary. Yeah, so RTS is real time strategy, which is basically like you produced like starcraft and read alert series, where you build up a civilization and then you you have you create like masses of troops. You're essentially commanding troops as OPPO, acting as an it's done unlike civilization games, which is like turn based, or I take my turn, that you take a turn. This is all happen. Everyone's doing it at the same time. These I send your armies to go attack. Yeah, but I'll mentioned something kind of funny. This is this just happened the other day. So I have I've recently acquired an oculous quest, which is a VR kind...

...of gaming system, and I've been playing there's there's a game called Super Hot, which is probably my favorite game on there. It's very just fun to play. The mechanics of it are simple. These polygon ty people are trying to shoot you and you can. You have matrix powers bullets and time only moves when you move, and so if you stay still, you can kind of look around with your eyes see what's happening. People were coming what directions shooting at you, and then you can kind of make your decision to duct or to puncher, to grab a gun and shoot it. anyways. It's got a lot of game options where it's fun for a very long time. But then there are story type games that are immersive or immersive right, using that right? Yes, okay, immersive, I think is it's submersive before and you to correct, but immersive, and I've gotten like the three vader immortal episodes, which are very, very cool. I mean you get sucked in real quick. Showed Nathaniel sister in law, who's a big stars Fan, and she flipped. It was out, very it was. It was amazing just to watch her. So Do you do? You play as Darth vader in the betwe me there. Yeah, you meet de Vader and like it's horrified, is it? Is, it is. It's like when you watch it on a screen, because you can cast the VR to a television, it looks it's hot. It's like is this hilaration? One or two like like it look the graphics are kind of blocky and it's just you're like, okay, as a compared to like modern day graphics, this is this is terrible. But when you put the headset on, it couldn't look anymore real. Like it's really it's because, like it's I mean they've come such a long way to the point now where you don't even need the remote. It can track your hands. So as you put the remotes down, he lift your hands, it actually shows a digital outline of your hands as a character. And so it's super, super bizarre and like you get, you get super sucked in. You Forget. I mean nathaniel would mention that like the first part of this game you're sitting in the hall of a ship and you're flipping toggles and, you know, shifting into hyperspeed. When you come out, you know it's all rumbling and they're talking about a star destroyer coming by and you're looking around and you have to look directly over you to see you start, a short coming over you, and that's when it kind of hits you that, all right, this game's not all just going to be like happening in front of me. I'M gonna have to look around and actually I'm present in this world that things are just happening to. It really emphasizes that, that that moment to be really emphasized. It's like the difference between looking at a picture and then physically being next to the object. Because like when when Anna, my sister in law, was, was playing it and she got to the start, I was like look up. I look up. She look up and gasps and look on the screen. I'm like it looks like a card wore cut out of a starts from. Yeah, but when I played it and I look up, like what the they so may do devil really well they'll give me, it's very much like that looks like it's that far away that's getting closer to me, like I'm almost convinced that that it's not actually like like that. This is really happening, like it's so anyways, needless to say, I've been pretty excited about this. This be our thing. I had no idea how far the technology to come along and it's very fascinating. Recently I thought, you know what, because the thing with VR Games is it's not like other systems where you've got a bunch of people that have played this game and they're all on a bunch of different platforms and you can kind of know the history of it. These are all like hey, you're kind of just going to have to buy this game to figure out if you like it, because there's no other way to experience right. And so I'm looking up reviews, I'm doing all the stuff, and I stumbled up on this game gorn. Yes, you're and this game like star trash, like that. They fights in the desert, like let me explain. Okay, because this is pretty sterical. Um, so I click on this game. It's the second most popular download game. So my God, I got it and I'm like, let's play the trailer. So the trailer starts and, I kid you not, there's this comically, you know, oversize looking gladiator guy and he starts singing in German and they start bleeping every other word he says. And then constantly it's showing this montage of clips from the game, and I'm not getting you seventy five per some of them are censored completely. The whole entire screen. It's just black and it's just as censored. And so I'm like, what is this game? It's like keep watching and it's this weird German song and all of a sudden'll be like a quick flash to that, like to the montage or the B roll of like somebody swinging a sword in a gladiator fight and alves and it stops again and it's like censored, sensored, censored, or like there's some what object being thrown across the room and it's just blurred out and hits some guy in the face and he falls down. I'm like what am I and so I'm like look in this up, I'm like. And so apparently it's just comically gruesome and over over the top, like you're essentially in a gladiator fight and that's why it's so brutal and gross. And so but I'm like what it what a pointless trailer that I sat there and it was literally these loud it was like they didn't even tried it. The beats were just like big, like every two seconds, and I'm like, it's a German I could understand it anyways. And every screen was just like the censored, censored, censored, throw it out, body part going by sensor. It's like what I like, thank you for showing me that trailer. Now I want to get the game. Like. So I sat there. The funny thing is I...

...go I'M gonna buy this game. Didn't even have my credit card information in there because I just recently change credit cards, and I was like OK, I guess I'll wait, but that is my next game I planned to get. So I will tell you, guys, how Gorn is. It has great reviews and says it's a very fun game to play. It's a PC phenomena. Apparently every on PC plays it and the the transition to vre was apparently excellent and everybody really really likes it. We'll see if you do. Yeah, yeah, like like the thumbs up of the thumbs that. Yeah, I'm just gonna like throw my sword in the crowd be like Oh, not a day. But yeah, so I guess I'd be remised if I didn't mention the V are being a big thing for me in January just because I got it for Christmas in December, late December, and so that has been a fun little little change of pace. There's also a game called a kron. This will then my last point, that cor knows a Krawn, and so it's a party game. And the way this game works is if you, let's say you have five people, four of them would be on their phones. They download an APP. It's free, and you're playing as squirrels and you're attempting to go take these acorns from the base of this tree and bring them back to your hut, and there's there's a total of like four of them, but the person with the VR headset is the tree, and so like it's such a bizarre thing to be playing a game on your phone and you're running around as a little cartoon squirrel. But then you put the headset on and you see the cartoon squirrels running around your feet and you're like this is crazy. And so as as the you know as the tree, you can throw these rocks and these like other like sap things, and you can also just grab the scrolls and like yeat them across the whole game the other day and I was like back is hurting a little bit, so I'm just gonna I pulled seat into the set of the room and sat down and was literally just eating. Dude. Yeah, we're on a level where some of the levels have like high cliffs and walls and things, as you can't like go to schools out of bounce, but this one was like the trees, the edge of a clip. So I've lived. You have those back right over my head, like five seconds for me to land. Yeah, everybody, I'm still flying in here. It round yet, but that's a great party game. That's been a lot of fun. But yeah, so I'll just mentioned VR as kind of my last little geeking out thing here before I guess we're doing sign offs. But yeah, yeah, it sounds that sounds really fun, Greg so my favorite sci fi novel of all time is ready player one, and ready player one is now required reading for anyone who gets tired at Occoos riff. That's awesome. So so everything that you have just described makes me very, very happy on on a like a science fiction or leveled so that that I'm a coremuginely Redcro Gamer, but I think like if I were going to do anything like. The newest system I own is a week, which is now like so actually, I would like to mention that. I don't know, because if you've just been playing on console, you see has had a renaissance of indie games that are retro. Yeah, yeah, I I am aware. I don't really play it anything like on PC, but I just, yeah, play what. I'm sorry, undertail. It's like an sns graphics. It'll well on anything and I'm not going to say anything about it other than say he should play it and it will probably make you die. It's really good. Okay, that's true. All right, but yeah, everything that you've just described, Greg about like the vader game, I was like, okay, that actually makes me really one because that sounds like ready, Claire, one of that makes you very happy. Yeah, that's yes, it's up there. Yeah, okay, very good, very good. So your man is any recommendations? Yeah. So, so if we're going to do is I have a whole list here and some of them are kind of like related, but some of the things that I kind of got into in January in terms of watching related. I I've mentioned on the podcast many a time that I'm a huge fan of John Carpenter. He is my favorite horror director, he is one of my favorite directors period, and so I have made a point of watching his directorial work over the past couple of years and I came to realize that I'm now only like one point five titles shy of watching every film he's ever directed, aside from a couple of short films in the s that I'm not sure I can kind anywhere. Part of the way I've been able to do that is through a video store based here in Charlotte. It called Biz art video. Charlotte is very fortunate and we have a real, honest to goodness legit video store. BIZART video has set themselves up as a nonprofit for a film history and film education, which is how they've been able to stay open. But they actually both the largest collection of films on the East Coast. They have thirtyzero plus titles, which is very, very cool. So if you are in the Air Charlotte, North Carolina area, e. even if you're like thirty minutes or an hour out, I think it's worth worth light going to bis...

...art video, because I was there Tuesday and and one of the the guys working there said for contact. So they have thirtyzero plus titles in their collection. Netflix, Amazon and Hulu have somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty thousand issue unique titles. So I'm sure combined, combine. Yeah. So, so the collection they have there is is vast. It's if you're somebody like me, as I mentioned in our last episode, who really loves cult film and unique, hard to find, rare things. BIZART is a really great resource for those things. And plus they have a screening room that you can rent, which is really cool. You know, huge vast collection of films. So and and they don't just have DVD's, they have vhs tapes as well, because some things have not made the crossover to DVD streaming, Blu Ray, anything like that. And they only will wait. You can watch them as on VHS, and I am one of like three people onto the accident as a functioning DC are. I've absolutely drinking a lot of things on VHS because I think that's fun. So anyway, because of this art I've been able to cross all but like one and a half titles off of John Carpenters through the floral list in the past month, which really cool. So I've actually got one in my possession right now that I haven't watched yet. It's the ward, which is the film he put out in two thousand and ten and I keep saying half because I've watched like the first, like thirty minutes of another film who did in like the late s early called Vampires, but I've not finished it. So that's like the only other John Carpenter film, that John Carpenter Directorial, something I've not watched in its entirely. So yeah, so John Carpenter visit. That's one of the things I've been beeking out about in January in terms of watching stock. That's awesome. Yeah, so I'm very much a completionist and so if I find like a an actor or director or a music musician really like, I want to go and listen, watch, read there for entire catalog of things that they've done and I like to start beginning work my way up because I love to see how they evolved in change as an artist. And so that's been a really great experience for me. You came to do that awesome treating. Yeah. So, yeah, I've got a couple other things on here, but if one of you. Others want want of taken turn far away. Well, you can like rapid fire, because I think we're ready to wrap up. Just yeah, hit them all. Cool. Other thing, another local place in the Charlotte area. It's in Mint Hill, North Carolina. But I love vinyl. Ryan and I last January took some Christmas money and bought a new record player and that's been a really great investment for both of us because we both music. I especially love movie soundtracks and scores and things like that, and so I've picked up a lot of vinyl recently at a local place called hardy boys records and comics in the hill. They are in the upper level of another kind of random ish store that I'm blinking on the name of right now, but I found a lot of really cool vinyl. They have both new and used. They also have a lot of comic books and those are all like used or older back issue comics. But I've picked up a lot of movie scores recently, some use, some new, but I got the score for Startrek, the motion picture which I'm gry Jerry Goldsmith, which is it potentially might be the best thing he ever did. HMM, it's a beautiful, beautiful Scorp your next Gen fan. The maintain from Startrek the motion picture is what they used for the paintings are start treck in stimulation. But even even aside from that, I think the the rest of that score is just immaculate. It's beautiful, really, really beautiful music. And I say this as Jerry Goldsmith also scored my favorite movie of all time, which is a lead, and I think the score, first a technical in picture, is even more like beautiful. I think as a great rudy like wee writing that the soundtrack for Rudy is amazing. Yeah, which, what is it? Rudy verty? Rudy's as the bather. I'm rudy with John Aston. I haven't seen that. I didn't realize he did the square. Oh Man, our sports episode. Yeah, I need it. I haven't left. That ever happens a little. Have them the sand law and angels in the outfield. So remove the titans and Rudy are anyway. Sorry, we'll say that for another episode. Yep, Jerry Goldsmith, jared oldsmith noted spotify players. I also was able, speaking of John Carpenters, also pick up the score for Halloween two thousand and eighteen. Going to bring new copy of that. It is amazing. It's also the first time John Carpenter's been involved with the Halloween films. It's Halloween to so really, really cool. He'd actually did the...

...score with his son and another guy whose name always escapes me. So I'm sorry, other guy who worked on that score. Get a better name. Bro Yeah, no, it's just that I can't. I remember it's John Carpenter and cody carpenter and then I'd blink on the other guy's name. I want to say Davies. Is His last name. I could. Is it David Davis? I don't think so, but I'll I'll look it up later and I'll send a team thrown and show it so I'll feel better about it. But also picked up the score from like Flash Gordon, the s movie, where quoting higher score for that and that's a flash. WHAT AB US? Yeah, exactly that one. What else? I get? Silent running. I don't know if it runnings. Yeah, the Bob said, don't know. Is I think it's a one thousand nine hundred and hundred and seventy four science fiction, like environmental sci fi thriller. But Joan Bayaz did the main theme for that. So I really like Joan Bayaz and I didn't realize she didn't main theme for it. So I actually picked up a copy of the score for that anyway. So lots of cool records. I found it heartyboat boys records and comics. Hearty boys records and comics not only have increased my vinyl collection but they've also helped me bring me up to the halfway point on sensational she hulk. which sensational she hulk is the nine, nine, nine hundred and eighty nine series of she holp comics that ran for sixty issues. I now had exactly half of that run, but it was originally written by John Byrne, who is kind of his take on she holk is really interesting because he shifted she hulk from a she hope smash kind of character to she's big and green, but also she's really funny and she's a lawyer and this book is going to break the fourth wall all the time and it's hilarious and I love it and it really inspired dance slots run of she hulk which aired, or what is Guve me, which ran in like the mid two thousands, and that's kind of the main inspiration for what's going to be the she hulk incutv series. So a few years ago, I well, I say a few years ago, this was now approaching a decade ago, when I was an Undergrad and in a class called comic books as modern mythology and writing my final papers presentation on she hulk. So I read a little bit of dance slots run then and a little bit of the John Byrne sensational fee hulk run. So I've been collecting that before. People remember that she hoped is cool and those because so those issues don't cost me a moving box. So anyway, just to just to point out that I always thought she hulk school because in Marvoss Capcom her level three super is she calls a taxi and it just hits the other person and she's like beat the crap out of them with the past. That's awesome. That's been cast. So in Li said, I've never played that version of marvel versus Capcom, but that is so in line with like the John Burns run of sensational she hulk in the late s early S. that's perfect. I love it. This wonderful. The other thing I would recommend is. For Christmas, Ryan gave me a star Trek cocktails book called Star Trek a cocktails companidium. Just so, while I am I am very much a if I am asked what kind of alcoholic beverage I would like to drink, is I would like beer or I would like whiskey meat. I've had a lot of fun making the Star Trek inspired hottails, which one of which I am currently consuming. Hey, yeah, bucks Bisbane with a bring me one finger twist. Anyway, it's very fun. I've had a lot of fun in the past month making these hottails and getting to learn about bark tonight. So that is my list. Guys, where that was very long. I am the nerdy bloggers, so I do all right. So, so the longest list it as is my at's brand. For me, I suppose does the ton I just gonna. No, no, no, just getting. How do you find these places? Accident? I was looking like getting rows about. Bizarre because they used to be located across the street from my favorite Irish pub in Charlotte, which now doesn't exist, and then because I would go watch all the retro horror at the air's Le Grand Theater the as who as Le Grand and Biz art partner together, like where you brought in your retro Horror Ticket stubs to bizarre. You got to free rentals. are like a race rental per ticket stub, like Max of to per week, and because I would go watch the double feature for like a month to free the system. Baby. Yeah. So so I...

...was like hight now get to cross all this weird stuff off my list. So I you know, even though they didn't get to do that last year, it's like, well, you know what, I reely bizarre. I love that I can go into an honest to goodness video store and the last glassbuster. Yeah, for Real, I mean, but wait, better. All right then, like hardy boys like help me find like some I was looking for some of the ninety five run of marble gargoyles comic books and I contacted them and they didn't have any. But the guy was so nice. I was like, I love a vinyl to I need to go check this place out, and so ran and I went to good chick get out, like in early January and just kind of fall in love. There is is a it's a very full little place. Less all right. Well, let's wrap this bad boy up. Yeah, so I'm talking a lot. No worries, no worries. So if you have suggestions, like let us know what you've been what you've been bingeing in January, recommendation stuff, that stuff that you maybe went back to and revisited, and what's been what's what have you been thinking out over this Inja? What did you geek out over in January? I said about that. So we'll take us out. Ashley. Where can people find you? So you can hit me up on the tweets at the nerdy blogger.
